People Who Drink Four Cups of Coffee Daily Have a Lower Risk of Death

Sounds legit, because running on two hours of sleep without any help doesn't sound like it would be a good idea.

For working moms that run on very little sleep, coffee isn’t a treat; it’s a necessity. And on super busy days, just one cup in the morning isn’t going to cut it. If you’ve ever felt guilty about needing a second, third or fourth cup to get you through the day, don’t be. Aside from giving you an instant energy boost, there’s another upside to your coffee habit. According to a new study, drinking four cups of coffee daily may lower your risk of death, USA Today reports.

Researchers from Spain looked at the coffee-drinking habits of about 20,000 participants, checking in with them for an average of 10 years, and found that people who drink at least four cups of coffee daily had a 64 percent lower risk of death than those who never or rarely drank coffee. They presented their findings this week at the European Society of Cardiology Congress in Barcelona.

“Our findings suggests that drinking four cups of coffee each day can be part of a healthy diet in healthy people,” said Adela Navarro, M.D., a cardiologist at Hospital de Navarra, where the study was conducted.

Researchers also found a link between drinking two extra cups of coffee per day and a 30 percent lower risk of death in participants age 45 or older.

So go on and sip that third or fourth mug of coffee, working moms. Because that cup of joe isn’t just giving you energy; it’s giving you life.
